{"id":984,"date":"2012-01-16T19:00:37","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T00:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=984"},"modified":"2012-01-14T09:38:39","modified_gmt":"2012-01-14T14:38:39","slug":"whiter-than-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/01\/whiter-than-snow.html","title":{"rendered":"Whiter Than Snow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We finally have the first snowfall of the winter in Ohio.\u00a0 Is there anything whiter than new fallen snow?\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think so.\u00a0 I doubt if God would have used that as an object of comparison regarding our sins, if it were not one of the whitest things in all creation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Isaiah 1:18 it says, &#8220;..though our sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.&#8221;\u00a0 A fresh snow is not only beautiful, but also refreshing.\u00a0 The air even seems to smell sweeter and more invigorating.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What I don&#8217;t like about snow is how it looks after a few days of traffic.\u00a0 It becomes slushy, brown, and full of various particles left behind by things that have disturbed it&#8217;s serenity.\u00a0 There are few things as ugly as dirty, muddy snow piles in a parking lot or driveway.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We are a lot like snow.\u00a0 We start each morning with sweet communion with God.\u00a0 Our sins are covered by the blood of Jesus.\u00a0 We are clean and ready to begin our day.\u00a0 Then we spill our coffee on our new outfit, find the cereal box empty, because of hungry children, and have a fight with our spouse over why they didn&#8217;t wash the car yesterday.\u00a0 After all,\u00a0that salt on the roads will rust out the undercarriage of the car!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we finally get to work, we find that someone left the lights on all\u00a0 night.\u00a0 What a waste of money.\u00a0 The man in the next cubicle has promised to quit smoking&#8230;.but hasn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Our lunch gets stolen from the office refrigerator and now we have to spend money on lunch or go hungry; that is if someone else will go get it, because now the car won&#8217;t start.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Our fresh clean spirit is looking pretty bad.\u00a0 We have trudged through the mud, gathered many particles of bad attitudes, and a bit of anger.\u00a0 Our clothes smell like smoke and we are very hungry.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time for another visit with Jesus.\u00a0 His blood will make us as white as snow all over again.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The wonderful thing about our Lord is that He never gets tired of cleansing us, encouraging us, loving us, and fitting us for His Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We finally have the first snowfall of the winter in Ohio.\u00a0 Is there anything whiter than new fallen snow?\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think so.\u00a0 I doubt if God would have used that as an object of comparison regarding our sins, if it were not one of the whitest things in all creation. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Isaiah&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14],"tags":[19,45],"class_list":["post-984","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-faith","tag-personal-growth"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
