{"id":972,"date":"2012-01-03T19:00:38","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T00:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=972"},"modified":"2012-01-02T16:24:48","modified_gmt":"2012-01-02T21:24:48","slug":"new-beginnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/01\/new-beginnings.html","title":{"rendered":"New Beginnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new year always offers us a chance to erase the errors of the past and have a new beginning.\u00a0 Thank God!!\u00a0 We all make so many mistakes and often fail ourselves and others.\u00a0 Every January we get a fresh start, a clean slate, a blank page.\u00a0 Many people make New Year&#8217;s resolutions at this time; things that they can do to have a better year.\u00a0 I wonder if our list looks at all like God&#8217;s list.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we want to get in shape\/lose some weight.\u00a0 To achieve this we will eat less and exercise more.\u00a0 God may desire us to read His word instead of eating so much, and to learn to pray and run at the same time.\u00a0 Maybe we want to watch less TV or spend less time on the computer.\u00a0 What will we do with that extra time?\u00a0\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go jogging with the neighbor who has just been through an ugly divorce.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s start a Bible study with the kids in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing that never changes is God and change itself.\u00a0 We can make positive changes to our lifestyle, but only God\u00a0can change our hearts.\u00a0 He can give us more love and compassion for those in trouble.\u00a0 He can lead us to places where we will find someone in need.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One time God prompted me to go to Walmart at 11:00pm.\u00a0 I just wanted to go to bed.\u00a0 It was cold and snowing and I really didn&#8217;t feel well.\u00a0 But, I knew that voice so I got dressed and went to Walmart.\u00a0 There I ran into an old\u00a0Christian friend, who I hadn&#8217;t seen in years.\u00a0 She needed encouraged after just having a major surgery.\u00a0 It was so good to reconnect with her.\u00a0 I call that a divine appointment.<\/p>\n<p>We all have a fresh start, whether we choose to take it or not, is completely up to each one of us.\u00a0 I can always use a &#8220;do over&#8221;, as the kids call it.\u00a0 I can always use forgiveness.\u00a0 I can always enter into new relationships or restart old ones.\u00a0 I am thankful for the New Year and what it holds for me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new year always offers us a chance to erase the errors of the past and have a new beginning.\u00a0 Thank God!!\u00a0 We all make so many mistakes and often fail ourselves and others.\u00a0 Every January we get a fresh start, a clean slate, a blank page.\u00a0 Many people make New Year&#8217;s resolutions at this&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14],"tags":[49,50,48],"class_list":["post-972","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-chnage","tag-hearing-god","tag-relatonships"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
