{"id":770,"date":"2011-11-25T19:00:48","date_gmt":"2011-11-26T00:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=770"},"modified":"2011-11-20T16:46:37","modified_gmt":"2011-11-20T21:46:37","slug":"black-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/11\/black-friday.html","title":{"rendered":"Black Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Black Friday, what an awful way to describe one of the most enjoyable days of the year.\u00a0 That is if you like to shop till you drop.\u00a0 I know the retailers have a reason for this name, I just have never liked it much.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After stuffing ourselves with turkey and pumpkin pie, we will get up at the crack of dawn to shop.\u00a0 This year some stores are opening at midnight Thanksgiving Day to get a head start on the crazy shoppers.\u00a0 If the deals are good enough, people will stand in line outside in the cold for hours; some even spend the night.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is NO special that good to me.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like being cold and I can&#8217;t stand in long lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We used to go shopping every year on Black Friday with our best friends, Myron and Lena.\u00a0 Some times we would even stay over night together so we could get an early start.\u00a0 I have pictures to prove how bad we all look in the morning.\u00a0 We would shop all morning, then have lunch, and\u00a0shop some more.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By mid afternoon, our feet needed a break, so we would slip in to see the latest holiday movie.\u00a0 Then more shopping.\u00a0 We often would hit several different towns during the day.\u00a0 By evening we were completely exhausted so we would gather at one of our houses and have Thanksgiving left overs for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By this time we could do nothing more, except drag our tired bones home and to bed.\u00a0 But, oh, the fun we had.\u00a0 We would laugh and sing Christmas songs.\u00a0 We would act like silly kids, because we knew no one was looking on that day.\u00a0 Everyone was looking for that best deal of the day, so they didn&#8217;t care about four old fogies acting like kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A few years ago, Myron went to be with the Lord.\u00a0 That ended our Black Friday adventures.\u00a0 Now mostly we stay home and avoid the crowds.\u00a0 But, we sure had a lot of fun during those years and made a lot of wonderful memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Black Friday, what an awful way to describe one of the most enjoyable days of the year.\u00a0 That is if you like to shop till you drop.\u00a0 I know the retailers have a reason for this name, I just have never liked it much. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After stuffing ourselves with turkey and pumpkin pie, we&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[36,30],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-770","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-just-for-fun","category-memories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
