{"id":722,"date":"2011-11-03T19:00:41","date_gmt":"2011-11-03T23:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=722"},"modified":"2011-11-03T18:48:31","modified_gmt":"2011-11-03T22:48:31","slug":"patience-is-a-virtue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/11\/patience-is-a-virtue.html","title":{"rendered":"Patience is a Virtue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Yesterday I spent 71\/2 hours waiting in a hospital waiting room while my husband had a knee replacement.\u00a0 Patience may be a virtue, but it isn&#8217;t my area\u00a0 of strength, unless it&#8217;s regarding children.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am grateful that the surgery went well and now we begin his rehab.\u00a0\u00a0 But, that was one long, tiring day for me.\u00a0 I think we get more tired just sitting than we do when we are active.\u00a0 My bones were aching and my recliner calling as I finally walked out of the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 Waiting on the Lord can just as tedious, especially when you think you have all the answers.\u00a0 When God tells us to wait and be patient, He always has a good reason for it.\u00a0 We cannot see the future, but God can.\u00a0 He knows all the trials and temptations we will go through long before we get there.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we get fresh direction from the Lord, it&#8217;s human nature to want to put ourselves in the fast mode to get it done.\u00a0 Often God tells us to wait.\u00a0 There are many reasons for this; spiritual immaturity,\u00a0 emotional road blocks, or\u00a0proper things aren&#8217;t set into place yet.\u00a0 We often proceed with our plan, and ignore the still\u00a0small voice in our hearts.\u00a0 That is not a wise thing to do!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Isaiah 55:9 God tells us, &#8220;For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.&#8221;\u00a0 We can save ourselves a lot of frustration and failed ventures, if we really believe this.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We must learn to trust the Lord and not our natural thinking.
