{"id":551,"date":"2011-10-03T19:00:36","date_gmt":"2011-10-03T23:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=551"},"modified":"2011-09-30T11:31:10","modified_gmt":"2011-09-30T15:31:10","slug":"can-scrapbooking-be-a-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/10\/can-scrapbooking-be-a-ministry.html","title":{"rendered":"Can Scrapbooking Be a Ministry?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I love to scrapbook.\u00a0 I do it whenever I have a few minutes to spare.\u00a0 I have all kinds of punches, stickers, ribbons, button, brads, and numeruos other tools.\u00a0 To me scrapbooking is a great way yo relax and chill out from a busy day.\u00a0 I love to let the creative juices flow when developing a new page.\u00a0\u00a0Looking at\u00a0the pictures take me back to some wonderful memories.\u00a0 This is just one of my hobbies and I throughly enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now to my question.\u00a0\u00a0 Can something this fun also be a ministry?\u00a0 I think it can and for me, I believe it is.\u00a0 I do scrapbooking for the local branch of Heartbeat and for the Liberty Center of Sandusky, our area homeless shelter.\u00a0 The Liberty Center has scrapbooks showing it&#8217;s development from its very beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I record in pictures all the big events of the year.\u00a0 We have a volunteer social, and an auction, birthday parties, Christmas morning, special events, and work projects.\u00a0 These are all documented in pictures.\u00a0 We even had a wedding one year between a couple that had met at the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At Heartbeat we record births, fund raising events and social activities given for the mothers.\u00a0 It &#8216;s so much fun to create adorable scrapbook pages with all the tiny babies.\u00a0 The books also serve as a way to show the community what Heartbeat does and how many young mothers are helped.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Every year I add to a scrapbook of our Vacation Bible School at the church.\u00a0 The children&#8217;s pastor takes tons of pictures during VBS week.\u00a0 I sort through them and find stickers and other embellishments to accent the featured activity.\u00a0\u00a0 Then the following summer we put the book on display at church as a way of showing parents how much fun VBS is.\u00a0 The children also love to look through the scrapbook and find pictures of themselves and their friends.\u00a0 It causes them to want to attend the next VBS and demonstrates to the other church members that we take VBS very seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sooooo, I think scrapbooking can be a ministry when done in conjunction with the ministry itself.\u00a0 Me scrapbooking my family pictures, at home is not a ministry.\u00a0 But, when I spend hours at the homeless shelter doing it, I am also interacting with the residents.\u00a0 Even today I spent an extra hour at the shelter visiting with the residents and staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Scrapbooking may be an unusual ministry, but it can be ministry just the same.\u00a0 The Bible says we should do all things as unto the Lord, even scrapbooking.\u00a0 What a wonderful way to express the goodness of our God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I love to scrapbook.\u00a0 I do it whenever I have a few minutes to spare.\u00a0 I have all kinds of punches, stickers, ribbons, button, brads, and numeruos other tools.\u00a0 To me scrapbooking is a great way yo relax and chill out from a busy day.\u00a0 I love to let the creative juices flow when&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14,30],"tags":[41,37],"class_list":["post-551","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-inspiration","category-memories","tag-ministry","tag-touching-others-s"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Can Scrapbooking Be a Ministry?
