{"id":367,"date":"2012-08-27T19:00:17","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T23:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=367"},"modified":"2012-08-27T10:33:46","modified_gmt":"2012-08-27T14:33:46","slug":"touch-through-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/08\/touch-through-me.html","title":{"rendered":"Touch Through Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a song my son used to perform mime to named, &#8220;Touch Through Me&#8221;.\u00a0 It spoke of ways that we can allow God to touch others through us.\u00a0 It carries a powerful message of faith and hope to all Christians.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t need a four year degree to encourage someone who is having a bad day.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t need to be a missionary to China to share the love of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Each of us have an arena in which we live that continually provides us with opportunities to touch the lives of others.\u00a0 We have a circle of friends or co-workers.\u00a0 We have our church families.\u00a0 We have the people we meet on the street or at the grocery store.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t take a lot of effort to help someone carry their groceries.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t take a rock star to sing a sick child to sleep at night.\u00a0 You need no special talents or lots of money to allow God to touch through your hands.\u00a0 You only need a willing heart.<\/p>\n<p>My husband and I volunteered at our local homeless shelter Friday night.\u00a0 We had a great time visiting with the residents.\u00a0 We treated them with love and respect and they knew we were not judging them because of their situations.\u00a0 We joked and laughed and shared a meal.\u00a0 Then one young man just hung out with us until our shift was over.\u00a0 He needed a shoulder to lean on and someone to believe in him.\u00a0 We provided that for him.\u00a0 No special training, just our love for people and willingness to reach out to them.<\/p>\n<p>Recently our church had our quarterly food giveaway.\u00a0 Anyone can come for food assistance.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t have to prove their income or tell us all the details of their lives.\u00a0 We have counselors who pray with each head of household and them send them off with the love of Jesus in the form of groceries and prayer.\u00a0 We meet some wonderful people who are just struggling because of the\u00a0economy.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-40 that if we give food or water, clothes or shelter, hope\u00a0 or encouragement to anyone; it is as if we have done it to Jesus.\u00a0 That is awesome.\u00a0 And we don&#8217;t need special training or a divine calling to this.\u00a0 We just need to be available.<\/p>\n<p>Try it some time.\u00a0 You will be so blessed.\u00a0 Hearts will be touched through your hands.\u00a0 We are Jesus&#8217; hands and\u00a0feet in this world and we only need to step out in faith and see what God will do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a song my son used to perform mime to named, &#8220;Touch Through Me&#8221;.\u00a0 It spoke of ways that we can allow God to touch others through us.\u00a0 It carries a powerful message of faith and hope to all Christians.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t need a four year degree to encourage someone who is having a&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14],"tags":[37,6],"class_list":["post-367","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-touching-others-s","tag-witnessing"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
