{"id":32,"date":"2011-06-06T18:51:09","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T22:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=32"},"modified":"2011-06-14T19:21:02","modified_gmt":"2011-06-14T23:21:02","slug":"pole-dancing-for-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/06\/pole-dancing-for-jesus.html","title":{"rendered":"Pole Dancing For Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I heard on the news a few weeks ago that a woman in a small town in Texas had started a group called Pole Fitness for Jesus.\u00a0 The idea is to use pole dancing as a form worship and keeping shape.\u00a0 I have to say, I didn&#8217;t believe my ears.\u00a0 How could anything as sensual as pole dancing\u00a0 be a Christian activity?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After checking online to see exactly what they were talking about, I have to at least consider it.\u00a0 It is done in a private gym and to only Christian music.\u00a0 The women dress in modest workout clothes, nothing flimsy or sexy.\u00a0 They wear shorts and tank tops.\u00a0 One sees much more skin at the beach.\u00a0 Their movements are graceful and almost acrobatic.\u00a0 After all it is God who created our bodies and said we should present them as a living sacrifice unto\u00a0Him.(Romans 12:1)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Each woman interviewed said she felt closer to God when dancing.\u00a0 They meet one afternoon each month and it is free.\u00a0 They all look at it as a form of worship.\u00a0 We have dancers at our church.\u00a0 They wear beautiful long flowing gowns when they perform a special dance for the church.\u00a0 During regular worship on Sunday mornings, they must be dressed modestly so as not to distract other worshippers.\u00a0 Many times the dances\u00a0are choreographed to interpret the song being song by the congregation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Psalm 149:3 says, &#8220;Let them praise His name with dancing.\u00a0 Let them praise His namewith the timbrel and lyre.&#8221;\u00a0 The Bible also tells of King David dancing befor the Lord when the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I think we each need to come to our own conclusions in this matter, but it&#8217;s not our pplace to judge\u00a0others.\u00a0We cannot know what is in an other&#8217;s heart. \u00a0We each have our own personal convictions regarding many things.\u00a0 I believe this is a very personal thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I heard on the news a few weeks ago that a woman in a small town in Texas had started a group called Pole Fitness for Jesus.\u00a0 The idea is to use pole dancing as a form worship and keeping shape.\u00a0 I have to say, I didn&#8217;t believe my ears.\u00a0 How could anything as&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[10,11],"class_list":["post-32","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","tag-being-judgemental","tag-convictions"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
