{"id":308,"date":"2011-08-15T12:49:23","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T16:49:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=308"},"modified":"2011-08-16T18:26:22","modified_gmt":"2011-08-16T22:26:22","slug":"porterhouse-steak-or-pork-loin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/08\/porterhouse-steak-or-pork-loin.html","title":{"rendered":"Porterhouse Steak or Pork Loin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Have you ever met anyone who didn&#8217;t know that difference between a porterhouse steak and a pork loin?\u00a0 I have, my husband.\u00a0 Well, he does now, but when we first got married 42 years ago he didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 The first time we went to the grocery store,\u00a0 I asked him what kind of meat he wanted me to buy.\u00a0 His response was, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, just meat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now, my father was a meat cutter by profession, so\u00a0I knew\u00a0the different kinds and cuts of meat.\u00a0 Our family ate everything from sweet breads to pigs feet, beef tongue to head cheese and just about everything in between.\u00a0We even made our own smoked fish, bacon\u00a0and smoked sausage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When Rich asked his parents what they were having for supper, the answer was always the same, &#8221; It&#8217;s meat, just eat it.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 He knew the difference between chicken and hamburger, but that was about all.\u00a0 Consequently, I had a bit of a problem that day \u00a0at the grocery store.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Should I buy a beef roast or pork chops?\u00a0\u00a0 Should I buy turkey breast or cornish hens?\u00a0 Should I buy bacon or sausage?\u00a0 I liked almost all of it, except for lamb and sweet\u00a0breads.\u00a0 I like both beef \u00a0liver and chicken livers.\u00a0 Rich likes neither.\u00a0 Needless to say we had fun our first few months of marriage while I educated him on the types of meats available.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 After 42 years, he pretty well knows what he likes now and I have stretched him beyond chicken and hot dogs.\u00a0 I can even send him to the store and most of the time he buys the right thing, although he still is challenged by the different types of bratwurst.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Actually my husband is a wonderful man and if choosing meat is his only difficulty, I think I&#8217;ll keep him another 42 years.\u00a0 I thank God every day for a good, godly man to share my life with.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Have you ever met anyone who didn&#8217;t know that difference between a porterhouse steak and a pork loin?\u00a0 I have, my husband.\u00a0 Well, he does now, but when we first got married 42 years ago he didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 The first time we went to the grocery store,\u00a0 I asked him what kind of meat he&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[36],"tags":[13],"class_list":["post-308","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-just-for-fun","tag-family-communications"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
