{"id":286,"date":"2011-08-04T12:12:58","date_gmt":"2011-08-04T16:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=286"},"modified":"2011-08-04T12:12:58","modified_gmt":"2011-08-04T16:12:58","slug":"pure-and-holy-ways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2011\/08\/pure-and-holy-ways.html","title":{"rendered":"Pure and Holy Ways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;Pure and holy ways&#8221;, that&#8217;s what polygamist, Warren Jeffs, says about his lifestyle.\u00a0 In 2008 the authorities raided their compound in Eldorado, TX.\u00a0 This was amidst allegations of young girls being forced into polygamist marriages, many to men who were much older.\u00a0 More than 400 children were taken from the compound, but were eventually returned to their families.\u00a0 Still Jeffs and 11 other men were charged with sexual assault and bigamy.\u00a0 Seven of them have been convicted and sentenced to prison terms of between 6 to 75 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeffs could face life in prison if he&#8217;s convicted of of sexually assaulting two underage girls.\u00a0 Last week he fired his lawyers and decided to defend himself.\u00a0 He believes himself to be a modern day prophet and that he speaks for God.\u00a0 On Friday he demanded to read a message from God, &#8221; I, the Lord God of heaven, call upon the court to cease this open prosecution against my pure and holy ways.\u00a0\u00a0 If the trial continues, I will send a scourge upon the counties of prosecutorial zeal to make them humbled by sickness and death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 That sounds like a threat to me, but\u00a0 it doesn&#8217;t sound much like the God I serve.\u00a0 One true test of the validity of a prophectic word is does it line up with God&#8217;s written word.\u00a0 Although polygamy was accepted in the old testament, it wasn&#8217;t in the new testament.\u00a0 In\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0I Timothy 3:2 states, &#8221; A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober&#8230;..&#8221;\u00a0 This is when listing the qualifications for and elder or bishop in the church, so it must be important to God.\u00a0 This is mentioned three times in I Timothy and again in Titus 1:6.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Children have always held a special place in God&#8217;s heart.\u00a0 They have such innocence and open faith in God.\u00a0 I cannot see my God approving of sexual and emotional abuse.\u00a0 These children are unfortunate to be trapped in this perverted world of abuse and polygamy, but God does not count it as pure and holy behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is a vast difference between a false prophet who speaks to promote his own agenda and a true prophet of God who speaks the truth.\u00a0\u00a0I believe there are prophets of God still being used today, but they will comfort and encourage us.\u00a0 They may even chastise or correct us, but I have never known them to threaten us or speak in violation of God&#8217;s written word.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;Pure and holy ways&#8221;, that&#8217;s what polygamist, Warren Jeffs, says about his lifestyle.\u00a0 In 2008 the authorities raided their compound in Eldorado, TX.\u00a0 This was amidst allegations of young girls being forced into polygamist marriages, many to men who were much older.\u00a0 More than 400 children were taken from the compound, but were eventually&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[27],"tags":[25,24],"class_list":["post-286","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news-or-feature","tag-children","tag-prophecy"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
