{"id":1567,"date":"2012-08-03T11:01:29","date_gmt":"2012-08-03T15:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1567"},"modified":"2012-08-03T11:01:29","modified_gmt":"2012-08-03T15:01:29","slug":"to-be-or-not-to-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/08\/to-be-or-not-to-be.html","title":{"rendered":"To Be Or Not To Be"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;To be or not to be &#8221; is a famous quote from William Shakespeare.\u00a0 My topic is not Shakespeare.\u00a0 The question is, &#8220;Today to be or not to be like Jesus&#8221;.\u00a0 We choose each day whether we want to be like Jesus or not.\u00a0 Do we want to love and care for others, or do we want to be self serving?\u00a0 Do we want to obey His voice or do our own thing?\u00a0 Do we want to grumble and com[plain about our situation, or give God the glory for all He has done for us?<\/p>\n<p>This is a choice we make many times every day.\u00a0 Jesus is our perfect example for all things.\u00a0 He only did what He saw the Father do or what the Father asked Him to do.\u00a0 Jesus seldom even took time to eat and rest as He should.\u00a0 He had more important things to do with His time. What do we fill our days with; T V, computers, iPhones?\u00a0 Or do we live to serve Jesus?<\/p>\n<p>Often we get so caught up in our daily routines that we forget to even ask Jesus what it is that He wants us to do on any given day.\u00a0 I can remember times when He was so specific that He told me what store to go to first on my list of errands.\u00a0 If I had not been listening, I would have missed a wonderful opportunity to visit with and pray for a dear friend whom I had not seen in many years.\u00a0 Another time I was so blessed to meet up with a young man I had helped at the area homeless shelter.\u00a0 It made my day to hear that now he was doing well and no longer on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Even in the midst of writing this blog, I was interrupted by a phone call.\u00a0 My niece need to go to Walmart and she doesn&#8217;t have a car.\u00a0 I could have just told her I was too busy, but, &#8220;What would Jesus do?&#8221;\u00a0 I took her to the store and had a nice visit with her and her daughter.\u00a0 I was even able to help them get some much needed school supplies.\u00a0 I was blessed.\u00a0 They were blessed.\u00a0 And I believe God was pleased.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t always make the right choices and get these wonderful results.\u00a0 But, <em>I thrive to be like Jesus and to obey His commands.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;To be or not to be &#8221;
