The American Bald Eagle was near extinction in the 1960s, but they have made a remarkable recovery in the state of Ohio.\u00a0 They have now been removed from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s endangered and threatened species roll.\u00a0 In 1979 there were only 4 pairs of nesting eagles, now there are about 250 pairs.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>These birds can reach about 14 pounds and can have a wing span of up to 90 inches.They have been spotted all over Ohio, but especially near the waterways.\u00a0 There are some along the Sandusky River in Ballville, Old Fort, and For Seneca.\u00a0 A lot of people are surprised to find eagles nesting only 15 miles away from Fremont, Ohio.<\/p>\n

Although people enjoy these beautiful and majestic birds and their patriotic symbolism, they are not always depicted accurately.\u00a0 The high pitched cry that is heard in the movies is more than likely the screech of a red tailed hawk.\u00a0 The bald eagles voice is a little quieter and\u00a0 more timid than the hawk.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We often see the eagle as the royalty of birds; one that sweeps down and grabs his dinner fresh from the waterways.\u00a0 However, the eagle is really a scavenger.\u00a0 They will eat road kill or a deer in the field.\u00a0 Even though it’s eating habits are a bit uncouth, it still is a exciting to watch.<\/p>\n
