{"id":1392,"date":"2012-06-12T17:08:25","date_gmt":"2012-06-12T21:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1392"},"modified":"2012-06-09T17:54:06","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T21:54:06","slug":"some-fathers-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/06\/some-fathers-fail.html","title":{"rendered":"Some Fathers Fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It will be difficult for me to write a positive blog about fathers.\u00a0 Both my father and my husband&#8217;s father were both abusive alcoholics.\u00a0 Therefore, I will have to look hard for good things to say about either of them\u00a0 Their mouths were always instruments of criticism and emotional injury.\u00a0 My father was just cruel in may of his behaviors; Rich&#8217;s dad was abusive both physically and emotionally.\u00a0 He would whip the boys with a milk hose and hit them in the face with his fist.<\/p>\n<p>God&#8217;s word states clearly in Ephesians 6:4 that fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath, but bring them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord.\u00a0 Abuse of any kind results in wrath.\u00a0 That anger may not show up for years, but it will show up.\u00a0 Children carry these scars well into adulthood, and if God doesn&#8217;t intervene, it will be passed on to the next generation.\u00a0 Thank God that Jesus rescued me and Rich.<\/p>\n<p>All of my siblings had control issues and were addicted to either drugs or alcohol or both.\u00a0Most of their children also struggle with addictions and alcohol.\u00a0My one sister didn&#8217;r drink, but she married an alcoholic and controlled her children even as adults.\u00a0 She had her own addictions, also.\u00a0 Rich&#8217;s only sibling, a brother, has a drinking problem and much uncontrolled anger.<\/p>\n<p>Our only pattern for being a good father is God our Father.\u00a0 He has shown mens how to love and respect their children. Fathers are to love and protect their children.\u00a0 They are to provide a home and food on the table.\u00a0 They are expected to teach them the ways of God and provide them opportunities to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>In I Peter 4:8 we are told that &#8220;love covers a multitude of sins&#8221;.\u00a0 I believe love also covers a multitude of mistakes.\u00a0 There is no manual we get before we start a family, that tells us all we need to know about how to be perfect parents.\u00a0 We all make mistakes with our children, but our love and God&#8217;s grace can make it all good.\u00a0 We can learn from our mistakes and our children can learn that even parents don&#8217;t have all the answers.<\/p>\n<p>God&#8217;s grace is sufficient for us and our children.\u00a0 Children tend to forget our mistakes when they are surrounded with unconditional love.\u00a0 Dad&#8217;s everywhere can be good dads if they choose to follow Jesus and His ways.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It will be difficult for me to write a positive blog about fathers.\u00a0 Both my father and my husband&#8217;s father were both abusive alcoholics.\u00a0 Therefore, I will have to look hard for good things to say about either of them\u00a0 Their mouths were always instruments of criticism and emotional injury.\u00a0 My father was just cruel&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[65,3,14],"tags":[25,29,73],"class_list":["post-1392","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bible","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-children","tag-family","tag-fathers"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
