{"id":1361,"date":"2012-09-10T10:30:28","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T14:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1361"},"modified":"2012-09-10T16:13:50","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T20:13:50","slug":"why-do-trials-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/09\/why-do-trials-come.html","title":{"rendered":"Why Do Trials Come?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why does it seem the harder we try to please God, the more tribulations that follow us?\u00a0 The Bible tells us that tribulations will come. Jesus tells us in John 16:33,&#8221;These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace.\u00a0In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes it seems everywhere we look we find more troubles.\u00a0 We know that God holds us in the palm of His hand and that He counts the hairs of our heads.\u00a0 He knows our comings and goings.\u00a0 He sees our difficulties and trials.\u00a0 His strength is made perfect in our weakness.\u00a0 In II Corinthians 12:9 Jesus says, &#8220;My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.&#8221;\u00a0 Paul&#8217;s response is, &#8220;Most gladly therefore I\u00a0will rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest on me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yet, knowing all these truths, still we wonder why we must suffer so much in this life.\u00a0 I know of preachers who have had many healed through their hands and prayers.\u00a0 Then the preacher fights a long battle with cancer and loses. Why?\u00a0 Several world famous television evangelists have seen healings and miracles throughout their ministries, yet they die from heart attacks and strokes.\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n<p>In Romans we are told that we should, &#8220;&#8230;glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope.&#8221;\u00a0 We certainly all need hope.\u00a0 Hope is sometimes the only thing that keeps us going when in the midst of terrible circumstances.\u00a0 We also see in II Corinthians 1:4, that what we learn through our tribulations will help us to encourage others facing the same battles.<\/p>\n<p>I know this: we all will experience trials and setbacks in life.\u00a0 We all will endure suffering and loss.\u00a0 We all will face situations where there seems to be no reason or sense.\u00a0 And I know this all part of God&#8217;s wonderful plan for us.\u00a0 Each will face his own troubles, but we will never face them alone because Jesus has promised to be our comfort and our strength.\u00a0 No matter how difficult things become, we must trust in our Loving\u00a0 God to help us through and to bring sweet victory in the end.<\/p>\n<p>We may never know all the\u00a0hows and whys of our tribulations; but we walk in faith; believing that God is always watching over us and that He always wants good things for us.\u00a0 He is our high tower and strength, our ever present help in time of trouble.\u00a0 Thank you, Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why does it seem the harder we try to please God, the more tribulations that follow us?\u00a0 The Bible tells us that tribulations will come.
