{"id":1357,"date":"2012-06-04T15:32:45","date_gmt":"2012-06-04T19:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1357"},"modified":"2012-06-04T15:32:45","modified_gmt":"2012-06-04T19:32:45","slug":"our-god-is-awesome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/06\/our-god-is-awesome.html","title":{"rendered":"Our God Is Awesome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my Sunday School class this week we learned what it means to be awesome.\u00a0 Webster says to be awesome is to express the attribute of awe.\u00a0 Awe is said to be a state of wonder that is inspired by authority or by the\u00a0sacred.\u00a0 It also states that awe can be a form of inspiration or dread.\u00a0 Not many things in this world can truely be discribed as awesome, but our God certainly can.<\/p>\n<p>People can be great, wonderful, well respected, revered, or generally liked by most of their peers.\u00a0 Several of my students tried to convince me that I was awesome.\u00a0 I believe the only One that is really worthy of that adjective is God Almighty.\u00a0 Many individuals have done great things, but God is awesome.\u00a0 Jesus is awesome.<\/p>\n<p>When God created man from dust; that was awesome.\u00a0 When He parted the Rea Sea, that was awesome.\u00a0 When He saved the Hebrews from the fiery furnace, that was awesome.\u00a0 When Jesus calmed the storm and walked on water, that was awesome.\u00a0 When He fed the 5 thousand with a few fishes and loaves and raised Lazarus from the dead, that was awesome.\u00a0 How many of us have done these things?<\/p>\n<p>We tend to use this term too lightly.\u00a0 A bike may be nice or cool&#8230;but not awesome.\u00a0 A beautiful new home may be lovely and beautiful, spacious and welcoming&#8230;.but not awesome.\u00a0 Mikey&#8217;s new video or Sara&#8217;s new dollhouse may be a lot of great things&#8230;but not awesome.\u00a0 A touchdown or home run may be mind boggling\u00a0and unusual&#8230;but is it really awesome?<\/p>\n<p>In Ephesians 1:19-23 it says, &#8220;And you will know that God&#8217;s power is very great for us who believe.\u00a0 That power is the same as the great strength God used to raise Christ from the dead and put Him at His right side in the heavenly world.\u00a0 God has put Christ over all rulers, authorities, powers, and kings, not only in this world, but also in the next.\u00a0 God put everything under His power and made Him head over everything for the church, which is Christ&#8217;a body.\u00a0 The church is filled with Christ and Christ fills evrything in every way&gt;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my Sunday School class this week we learned what it means to be awesome.\u00a0 Webster says to be awesome is to express the attribute of awe.\u00a0 Awe is said to be a state of wonder that is inspired by authority or by the\u00a0sacred.\u00a0 It also states that awe can be a form of inspiration&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[65,14],"tags":[11,19,39],"class_list":["post-1357","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bible","category-inspiration","tag-convictions","tag-faith","tag-spiritual-growth"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
