{"id":1244,"date":"2012-04-30T17:57:16","date_gmt":"2012-04-30T21:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2012-04-30T18:01:05","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T22:01:05","slug":"you-shall-not-kill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/04\/you-shall-not-kill.html","title":{"rendered":"You Shall Not Kill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is possibly the easiest commandment to explain.\u00a0 We all know what it means to take someones life and that it is something we should not do.\u00a0 I suppose the exceptions would be during battle in he military and when defending ones home and family.\u00a0 I still doubt if I could actually do it.\u00a0 Maybe to defend small children, but even that is a maybe.<\/p>\n<p>Death is so final. When we watch movies and\u00a0 television it doesn&#8217;t seem that way, because the same person can be killed several times an still show up in another movie.\u00a0 Adults can comprehend this, but children really can&#8217;t understand the finality of death.\u00a0 Death means someone is never coming back.<\/p>\n<p>If I am facing a man with a gun and he kills me, I know where I will spend eternity.\u00a0 If I kill him instead, I know where he will spend eternity.\u00a0 Perhaps I should give him another chance to repent and I will just go be with Jesus.\u00a0 I know others don&#8217;t share that opinion, but we each have a right to our own.<\/p>\n<p>We shouldn&#8217;t do anything that might even possibly lead to another&#8217;s death.\u00a0 Many people go to prison for accidents that result in death.\u00a0 Maybe we should say,&#8221;You should not push anyone&#8221;.\u00a0 If we push them too hard, they crack their head open on some hard object, and die; we have just killed them.\u00a0 It may have never been our intent, but the result is the same.\u00a0 Throwing someone into the lake can be good for a laugh, but if they can&#8217;t swim, you might kill them.<\/p>\n<p>If we learn to turn the other cheek when hurt by others and to treat them like we want to be treated, I don&#8217;t think we need to worry about killing anyone.\u00a0 God&#8217;s instructions for life are all entangled together, but they work in unison.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is possibly the easiest commandment to explain.\u00a0 We all know what it means to take someones life and that it is something we should not do.\u00a0 I suppose the exceptions would be during battle in he military and when defending ones home and family.\u00a0 I still doubt if I could actually do it.\u00a0 Maybe&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[65,3],"tags":[42,66],"class_list":["post-1244","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bible","category-encouragement","tag-choices","tag-gods-laws"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
