{"id":1128,"date":"2012-03-15T19:00:13","date_gmt":"2012-03-15T23:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1128"},"modified":"2012-03-13T15:05:13","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T19:05:13","slug":"feeding-the-hungry-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/03\/feeding-the-hungry-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Feeding The Hungry #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of the people who come to our food giveaways feel like they are the only one in that situation.\u00a0 They tend to believe that Christians have wonderful, stress free lives and don&#8217;t have the same difficulties as the rest of the world.\u00a0 We have all kinds of volunteers for each give away and our regular food pantry.\u00a0 We have quite a mix of people.\u00a0 We have pastors, pastor&#8217;s wives, and Sunday School teachers.<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/files\/2012\/03\/IMG_06481.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1143\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/259\/2012\/03\/IMG_06481-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/files\/2012\/03\/IMG_06491.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1144\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/259\/2012\/03\/IMG_06491-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This last big food giveaway we had one volunteer who has terminal cancer.\u00a0 One lady who just lost her mother.\u00a0 One man who has recently had both hip and knee replacements.\u00a0 We have some helpers who need a food package themselves.\u00a0 We have people from all walks of life.\u00a0 We have a nurse, a postal worker, a truck driver, several retirees,\u00a0 a secretary , a mechanic, and several teens and home schooled children who use this as a service project. Our common desire is to minister the love of Jesus through practical means.<\/p>\n<p>In November we did big\u00a0Thanksgiving packages with a turkey and all the trimmings besides the regular items.\u00a0 We served 136 families and 490 individuals.\u00a0 We are open from 11:00am to 1:00pm.\u00a0 Some people we waiting in the parking lot at 4:30am.\u00a0 They come rain or shine, hot or cold.\u00a0 Yet, some people still believe there is no need for such programs.
