{"id":1124,"date":"2012-03-14T19:00:12","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T23:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1124"},"modified":"2012-03-13T14:59:27","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T18:59:27","slug":"feeding-the-hungry-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/03\/feeding-the-hungry-1.html","title":{"rendered":"Feeding The Hungry #1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many people in America have been\u00a0 placed in desperate situations because of our \u00a0failing economy.\u00a0 Even those who receive government assistance usually are scraping the bottom of the barrel by the end of the month.\u00a0 When the food stamps run out, but there\u00a0are still several days before you get more, what do you do?\u00a0 The food banks and soup kitchens are overwhelmed with people just wanting a hot meal.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us don&#8217;t give a second thought about where are next meal will come from.\u00a0 If we don&#8217;t have the makings for dinner in the pantry, we just go out to eat.\u00a0 Low income people don&#8217;t have that option.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0They are often completely dependant of the generosity of others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/files\/2012\/03\/IMG_0644.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1138\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/files\/2012\/03\/IMG_0644-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a>Our church in Toledo, Ohio, has a big food giveaway four times a year.\u00a0 We get some things from the local food bank.\u00a0 The people from our church brings lots of non perishable items.\u00a0 We also purchase many things ourselves.\u00a0 We try to give milk, bread and eggs to every family.\u00a0 We also give out frozen meat and canned goods, breakfast foods and fresh produce.<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/files\/2012\/03\/IMG_0643.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1137\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/259\/2012\/03\/IMG_0643-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We do not ask that they meet any financial guidelines.\u00a0 They just must show a picture ID and give their address and the number of people in the family.\u00a0 That dictates the amount of food given and insures that people don&#8217;t try to get more than one food package.<\/p>\n<p>The people from our church take hours to set up the tables and food.\u00a0 When the produce truck comes we have to sort everything to make sure nothing is spoiled or over ripe.\u00a0 Most people are very gratful for whatever we give them.\u00a0 We also try to have personal hygiene items and paper procucts because even if they have food stamps, they can&#8217;t get toilet paper or soap, shampoo or laundry soap.<\/p>\n<p>The need is great, but we do our best to express the love of Jesus in this very practical way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people in America have been\u00a0 placed in desperate situations because of our \u00a0failing economy.\u00a0 Even those who receive government assistance usually are scraping the bottom of the barrel by the end of the month.\u00a0 When the food stamps run out, but there\u00a0are still several days before you get more, what do you do?\u00a0 The&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14,27],"tags":[5,37],"class_list":["post-1124","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","category-news-or-feature","tag-compassion","tag-touching-others-s"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
