{"id":1102,"date":"2012-03-06T19:00:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-07T00:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2012-03-03T11:52:22","modified_gmt":"2012-03-03T16:52:22","slug":"try-new-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/03\/try-new-things.html","title":{"rendered":"Try New Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our pursuit of our destiny, we must be open to try new things.\u00a0 How else will we know what is our passion is and what talents and giftings we have?\u00a0 A person who goes to church every time the doors are open, pays their tithe faithfully, and sits in the same seat every Sunday, will probably never find their destiny in God.\u00a0 Not because they have no destiny, but because they aren&#8217;t looking for it.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus came into this world to be a servant.\u00a0 He was always ready to help whenever and wherever He could.\u00a0 Although He knew His destiny since the beginning of time, He still had to learn to function in the earthly realm.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure He never had raised the dead or healed the blind while He was living in Heaven.\u00a0 So they were new experiences for Him.<\/p>\n<p>We often don&#8217;t try new things because we are afraid of failing.\u00a0 Jesus had complete trust in His Heavenly Father.\u00a0 That wiped away all fear.\u00a0 We need to trust that deeply.\u00a0 Jesus is our perfect example in all things.\u00a0 The only people who never fail are those who never do anything.<\/p>\n<p>In any given church there are many opportunities to serve.\u00a0 How will you find your passion if you don&#8217;t try anything?\u00a0 Try being an usher, teacher, greeter, or toilet cleaner.\u00a0 Work in the food pantry or office as a volunteer.\u00a0 Offer to be on the worship team or prayer teams.\u00a0 You will soon discover what it is that makes you shine.\u00a0 You may participate in several ministries in and outside the church.\u00a0 There are never enough volunteers to serve in any given community, find out where you fit.<\/p>\n<p>I tried volunteering at the local animal shelter.\u00a0 It was fun, but I wanted to bring all the cats home with me.\u00a0 I always came home feeling sad because I couldn&#8217;t give those poor creatures a safe home.\u00a0 That did not work for me!\u00a0 I found my niche in the community volunteering at the local homeless shelter.\u00a0 I bake for them, can and freeze produce for them, have scrapbooked their history, wrap all their Christmas gifts each year and have worked in the office from time to time.\u00a0 I also work regular shifts on the weekends and sometimes tutor the children staying there.\u00a0 I love interacting with the residents.\u00a0 I love sharing the love of Jesus with them.\u00a0 I love the way they respond to someone who genuinely cares and doesn&#8217;t look down on them.<\/p>\n<p>I also learned that my greatest passion is for children.\u00a0\u00a0More to come&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our pursuit of our destiny, we must be open to try new things.\u00a0 How else will we know what is our passion is and what talents and giftings we have?\u00a0 A person who goes to church every time the doors are open, pays their tithe faithfully, and sits in the same seat every Sunday,&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14],"tags":[42,17,45],"class_list":["post-1102","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-choices","tag-courage","tag-personal-growth"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
