{"id":1012,"date":"2012-07-20T19:00:10","date_gmt":"2012-07-20T23:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/smalltownamerica\/?p=1012"},"modified":"2012-07-12T12:34:33","modified_gmt":"2012-07-12T16:34:33","slug":"when-relationships-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/smalltownamerica\/2012\/07\/when-relationships-fail.html","title":{"rendered":"When Relationships Fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all have many types of relationships in our lives.\u00a0 Everything from marriage, child-parent, \u00a0close friends, relatives, co-workers, church people and many more.\u00a0 Whenever there are two people in a relationship, there is the possibility for failure.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t like to admit this because it hurts so bad when there is a breakup.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not talking about divorce, but all the other relationships we find ourselves in.<\/p>\n<p>My brother-in-law disowned us over 10 years ago.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t like the fact that we were Christians.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t know if he is dead or alive.\u00a0 He made it very clear that he never wants to hear from us again.\u00a0 This hurt us, especially my husband, very much.\u00a0 He is his only sibling and his parents are both gone.\u00a0 We have tried to contact him, even through his lawyer, but to no avail.\u00a0 My husband and my children have\u00a0 no relatives on that side of the family, other than distant cousins.<\/p>\n<p>We all have friends who have either betrayed us or just turned away from the relationship.\u00a0 We all have family members who either use and abuse us or ignore us altogether.\u00a0 We have co-workers who drive us nuts, but still we have to work through it.\u00a0 Sometimes even our own children pull away for no apparent reason.<\/p>\n<p>So what can we do?\u00a0 The bible tells us that if we have aught against someone we are to go to them and straighten it out.\u00a0 We should be willing to forgive and forget.\u00a0 That isn&#8217;t always easy, since there usually is a lot of finger pointing and blaming going on.\u00a0 But still, we must if we are to remain in good standing with God.<\/p>\n<p>There as many solutions to this problems as there are problems themselves.\u00a0 One size doesn&#8217;t fit all.\u00a0 But this I know, <strong><em>Sometimes you just have to smile,\u00a0pretend everything is okay, hold back the tears and just walk away.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we have done all we know to try to mend a relationship and the other person doesn&#8217;t want to co-operate.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t force them to be our friend.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t force them to love us.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 We must go on!\u00a0 We cannot allow this one failure to taint all of our relationships.\u00a0 It is always hard to say &#8220;good bye&#8221; to someone we love, but we must be true to God and all the other people who are important to us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We all have many types of relationships in our lives.\u00a0 Everything from marriage, child-parent, \u00a0close friends, relatives, co-workers, church people and many more.\u00a0 Whenever there are two people in a relationship, there is the possibility for failure.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t like to admit this because it hurts so bad when there is a breakup.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":420,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,14],"tags":[42,29,55],"class_list":["post-1012","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-encouragement","category-inspiration","tag-choices","tag-family","tag-friendship"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
