{"id":822,"date":"2011-06-18T05:39:57","date_gmt":"2011-06-18T09:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=822"},"modified":"2011-06-16T20:45:10","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T00:45:10","slug":"eliminating-stress-daily-exercise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2011\/06\/eliminating-stress-daily-exercise.html","title":{"rendered":"Eliminating Stress&#8211;Daily Exercise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/sleepy-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/sleepy-3.jpg?w=184&amp;h=325\" alt=\"\" width=\"184\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a>About 20 years ago, I realized that I was loosing my balance. \u00a0Most of my life, I\u2019d hated exercise; and I could realistically be called a couch potato. \u00a0However, I had fallen and broken my leg. \u00a0As soon as I was out of my cast, I began a daily regimen of exercise.<\/p>\n<p>I felt this was to be a daily discipline as a part of my growth in the kingdom of God. \u00a0I started working out with the \u201cidiots on TV.\u201d \u00a0For years, I\u2019d ridiculed these men and woman. \u00a0However, I quickly learned that I was the idiot and these trainers were knowledgable folks who knew far more about my body than I did.<\/p>\n<p>Another couch potato and friend, Diana, had once quoted the scripture where Paul had spoken to Timothy and said, \u201c\u2026for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.\u201d \u00a0Her interpretation had been that we should never exercise. \u00a0I had taken the opposite tactic. \u00a0I felt that Paul was saying that we should not allow bodily training to become an obcession. \u00a0Of course, that didn\u2019t get me off the couch.<\/p>\n<p>Medical evidence shows that even a small amount of exercise of 15 minutes a day will prove significantly beneficial to everyone. \u00a0In the past, people worked in labor intensive jobs. \u00a0More and more of us sit at computers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain in terms of mood, memory, and learning,\u201d says Harvard\u00a0<a id=\"KonaLink0\" href=\"http:\/\/health.usnews.com\/health-news\/diet-fitness\/fitness\/articles\/2010\/06\/30\/0630healthexercise#\">Medical<\/a> School psychiatrist John Ratey, author of the book,\u00a0<em>Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.<\/em> \u201dEven 10 minutes of activity changes your brain.\u201d \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/exercise-man.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/exercise-man.jpeg?w=266&amp;h=190\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Going to the gym can be expensive and time-consuming. \u00a0For more than ten years, I worked out with nationally known \u00a0trainers who came into my home on my time schedule. \u00a0They charged me nothing. \u00a0When I got bored with one trainer, I switched to another. \u00a0I needed two and five-pound weights that I got from Wal-Mart for less than $10. \u00a0 The few other pieces of equipment I needed were minimal. \u00a0These men and women are also available to you, also. \u00a0They are on your TV and you can find them early in the morning, in the afternoon or at night.<\/p>\n<p>Your stress level will zoom downward and so will your blood pressure. \u00a0Add a few cards with Scriptures that you can memorize and you will find great spiritual benefit to the minutes you spend building your body.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About 20 years ago, I realized that I was loosing my balance. \u00a0Most of my life, I\u2019d hated exercise; and I could realistically be called a couch potato. \u00a0However, I had fallen and broken my leg. \u00a0As soon as I was out of my cast, I began a daily regimen of exercise.
