{"id":290,"date":"2011-05-05T05:20:15","date_gmt":"2011-05-05T09:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=290"},"modified":"2011-05-02T21:38:32","modified_gmt":"2011-05-03T01:38:32","slug":"everyone-like-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2011\/05\/everyone-like-me.html","title":{"rendered":"Everyone like me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During my &#8220;play time,&#8221; I dreamed of being on stage and teaching. \u00a0Playing mommy and cuddling doll babies didn&#8217;t ever interest me. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/05\/On-stage-by-toddysm.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-291\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/05\/On-stage-by-toddysm.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>However, writing and performing plays was the passion of my playmates and me. \u00a0While standing before people is our nation&#8217;s leading fear, putting me in front of people was comfortable for me. \u00a0Intuitively, it seemed to be &#8220;my place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, even before I became aware of the value (or problem) of meetings and organizations, I&#8217;ve loved the process of organizing people to be able to fulfill a mission or accomplish a task. \u00a0In junior high and high school, I was part of the student government. \u00a0I helped run campaigns for my friends, making posters and handing out flyers. \u00a0I sat through the monthly church business meetings fascinated by the way the meetings were conducted.<\/p>\n<p>Later, as an adult, I learned of people&#8217;s fear of being in front of a group. \u00a0Inwardly, I was surprised because I assumed that everyone was like me.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it is a great revelation to each person at some time in his or her life that we are uniquely built. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/05\/Snowflake-by-ChaoticMind75.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-293\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/05\/Snowflake-by-ChaoticMind75.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a> Like the snowflake, God designs all of us with different needs and desires. \u00a0Of course, all of us are told this fact but somehow it doesn&#8217;t actually connect until adulthood.<\/p>\n<p>Within the mentally challenged community, that uniqueness is as clear as it is in the rest of us. \u00a0When I met Allen, I was shocked by his blank personality. \u00a0Then as I came to know him, I slowly learned the layers of his distinctiveness. \u00a0He seldom spoke but he possessed a great sense of humor. \u00a0He was energetic and a planner. \u00a0Without speaking a word, he would organize the people on the van\u00a0who were seated by the time he got on the van. \u00a0Telling them how to get off the van, he directed the willing passengers with his &#8220;better way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Psalm 139:13 and 14 says, &#8220;You made my whole being; you formed me in my mother&#8217;s body. \u00a0I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. \u00a0What you have done is wonderful.
