{"id":2404,"date":"2012-01-11T08:21:21","date_gmt":"2012-01-11T13:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=2404"},"modified":"2012-01-11T08:27:05","modified_gmt":"2012-01-11T13:27:05","slug":"learning-to-pace-ourselves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2012\/01\/learning-to-pace-ourselves.html","title":{"rendered":"Learning to pace ourselves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I admit, I&#8217;m not extremely good at pacing myself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/pace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/pace.jpg?w=2\" alt=\"\" width=\"2\" height=\"1\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/pace1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/pace1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>Yet, there are some tricks I&#8217;ve learned from others along the way. \u00a0Here are eight of them.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>1. \u00a0Force yourself to be patient with what you have.<\/strong> \u00a0Much of our frantic pace doesn&#8217;t come from good works but a dissatisfied spiritual quest for more stuff.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2. \u00a0Make friends with who you are.<\/strong>\u00a0 The key to loving who you are is loving and accepting your parents. \u00a0They molded you into the person you are&#8211;whether you were compliant or rebellious. \u00a0They were the people who shaped your early years of development. \u00a0Forgiving and accepting them for their good qualities and mistakes is a vital step in becoming best friends with yourself.<\/li>\n<li><strong>3. \u00a0Become the enemy of what you do.\u00a0<\/strong> Who you are is different from what you do. \u00a0Lying, stealing, cheating, inappropriate anger are common to every person. \u00a0They are the things we do. \u00a0Make these your enemy; fight against them.<\/li>\n<li>4. \u00a0Take time off to smell the roses and enjoy God. How many of us break the commandment that tells us to take a Sabbath day of rest? All the others are to be obeyed, but this one can be dismissed.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/mirror-and-child.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/mirror-and-child.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a><strong>5. \u00a0Don&#8217;t be in a hurry to succeed.<\/strong> \u00a0Celebrate the small successes in your life and the lives of others. \u00a0Make one meal a day a party time. Think of something you have done right and enjoy!<\/li>\n<li><strong>6. \u00a0Exercise and eat good foods.<\/strong> \u00a0Take care of your body.<\/li>\n<li><strong>7. \u00a0Be in God\u2019s word every day.\u00a0<\/strong> Feed your spirit. \u00a0You can complete reading the Bible in one year by reading 4 chapters a day. \u00a0That is about 15 minutes a day in God&#8217;s word.<\/li>\n<li><strong>8. \u00a0Give generously to others.<\/strong> \u00a0Give more than money. \u00a0Give of your time. \u00a0Stop to spend time to have a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the book of Acts, we learn about Doras. \u00a0She was a woman who was always doing good.\u00a0 She got sick and died. \u00a0The people that she ministered to were the people who called for Peter to come and pray for her. \u00a0They were the folks to helped her in her greatest time of need. \u00a0You will find the same to be true in your life.<\/p>\n<p>Doing good is the most important thing we do for others.\u00a0 Learning to pace ourselves will make doing these good works possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I admit, I&#8217;m not extremely good at pacing myself.
