{"id":2060,"date":"2011-11-09T01:00:24","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T06:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=2060"},"modified":"2011-11-04T10:24:25","modified_gmt":"2011-11-04T14:24:25","slug":"jesus-gods-perfect-gift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2011\/11\/jesus-gods-perfect-gift.html","title":{"rendered":"Jesus, God&#8217;s perfect gift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week \u00a0my grandson, his girlfriend and I toured Kennedy Space Center. \u00a0I saw that one of the astronauts who walked on the moon had received a Exceptional Service Medal for this task.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/files\/2011\/11\/Ack_medal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2063\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/11\/Ack_medal-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>I was a bit shocked because my husband, Frank, also has a Exceptional Service Medal. \u00a0It is the highest award given to a civilian by the Federal government.<\/p>\n<p>Even at a young age, my husband knew that God wanted him to be an engineer. \u00a0He did his engineering work for the Lord; and he did a great job. \u00a0My husband simply knew that he loved solving engineering problems and this led to his decision to become an engineer. \u00a0Nevertheless, there are times that special signs are given to people letting them know God has given them a unique assignment.\u00a0 That was what happened to David<\/p>\n<p>It started like every other day for David. \u00a0The young man awakened and went to work tending his father&#8217;s \u00a0sheep. \u00a0It&#8217;s a good assumptions that he slept in the fields with the flock all night, protecting them from bears and lions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/files\/2011\/11\/man-in-prayer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2064\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/11\/man-in-prayer-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a>On the other hand, Samuel may have started his day with a sense of destiny. \u00a0The Lord had rejected Saul as king of Israel and God was going to have Samuel anoint a new king. \u00a0As soon as Samuel saw the sons of Jesse gathered in front of him, he knew that the oldest and strongest son was the best selection but God had other ideas. \u00a0Each son passed by Samuel but God rejected each one. Handsome and strong, these men didn&#8217;t pass God test. \u00a0&#8220;Is there another son?&#8221; \u00a0Samuel asked the father.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s David in the fields,&#8221; the father answered as though David were an afterthought.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Send for him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>David came and the rest is history. \u00a0God chose a singer and song writer who appears to be a bit of a dreamer for the next king is Israel. \u00a0David did not fit the picture of a king but God saw a great warrior and leader in the young shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>What does God have for you to do? \u00a0Each of us has a special place in God\u2018s heart. \u00a0His love extends to all; and he wants us to do his work. \u00a0He probably doesn&#8217;t want us to be the ruler of a nation. \u00a0Yet, never discount the job he has chosen for you to do. \u00a0God&#8217;s work for you is needed. \u00a0If we are willing,\u00a0God can teach others through our lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/files\/2011\/11\/Copy-2-of-Tim.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2065\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/11\/Copy-2-of-Tim-226x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>About 20 years ago, \u00a0The Special Gathering choir sang at a small meeting for women. Special Gathering is a ministry within the intellectually disabled community. \u00a0The choir sings for the community and church events. \u00a0The choir&#8217;s purpose is to teach the Church that people with disabilities have valid spiritual needs. \u00a0 That Saturday morning, God used the choir to teach a mother that God could use her son who is also developmentally disabled. \u00a0About 15 years later, circumstances worked out that her son became a member of the Special Gathering choir.<\/p>\n<p>There is no one that God doesn&#8217;t want to use. \u00a0God will use me and you if we let him.<\/p>\n<p>From all accounts, Jesus did not appear to be the kind of person who was part of the Godhead or that his sacrifice would save the world. \u00a0Most people did not understand his great mission for redemption of the earth. \u00a0Likewise,\u00a0David was a humble man and he didn\u2018t appear to be strong and powerful.<\/p>\n<p>God used David who became a great king. \u00a0Of course, Jesus is our Redeemer and Savior. \u00a0 Likewise, God can and he will use you and me.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what our past has been, no matter how bleak your future looks, no matter what my life is like today, God wants to use me. \u00a0God wants to use you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week \u00a0my grandson, his girlfriend and I toured Kennedy Space Center. \u00a0I saw that one of the astronauts who walked on the moon had received a Exceptional Service Medal for this task.
