{"id":1718,"date":"2011-09-26T01:00:17","date_gmt":"2011-09-26T05:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=1718"},"modified":"2011-09-26T00:51:36","modified_gmt":"2011-09-26T04:51:36","slug":"power-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2011\/09\/power-point.html","title":{"rendered":"Power Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a computer person only because my husband was a computer person. \u00a0He purchased the first handheld calculator manufactured 35 years ago. \u00a0It cost $1,200. \u00a0A few years later, he bought one of the first personal computers. \u00a0 Our Apple 2E was sold in order for him to be able to buy the first MacIntoch.<\/p>\n<p>I trekked along side him learning bits and pieces while he zoomed ahead. <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/files\/2011\/09\/craig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1717 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/09\/craig-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>I kept pace rather well until PowerPoint appeared on the techno scene. \u00a0In fact, when I first heard the term, Power Point, I could only imagine what it meant. \u00a0Yet, within a matter of weeks, it seemed to take over the world of computers before I could even begin to understand its purpose.<\/p>\n<p>When I was given a Power Point program, I was convinced that it would be one of the most useful program I&#8217;d ever used. \u00a0Alas, I still not found a reason or purpose to use it. \u00a0My low tech overhead projector still serves all my purposes. \u00a0Patiently, the PowerPoint program languishes on my desktop waiting for me to unearth its full potential.<\/p>\n<p>At times, I&#8217;ve wondered how anyone who does not devote their lives to learning about computers can actually come to fully understand them. \u00a0In my mind, PowerPoint became a symbol of all the things I don&#8217;t know about computers.<\/p>\n<p>Then I was introduced to the Internet through my daily blogs and I found a new love until I was expected to know all the acronyms&#8211;the url&#8217;s and pmq&#8217;s of that vast expanse of knowledge. \u00a0Clearly, I stood immersed with enormous new bytes and bits of information that I was expected to master.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly, I realized that I needed to revert back to the way I grasped new skills when I was a child. \u00a0I found that I learned best when I was able to take one small step at a time. \u00a0Because I didn&#8217;t ever own a bicycle, I was pretty old before I acquired the skill of riding a bicycle. \u00a0By the time I determined to learn, everyone assumed that it was a skill that I&#8217;d already assimilated. \u00a0Therefore, no one was interested in helping me.
