{"id":1073,"date":"2011-07-07T21:53:29","date_gmt":"2011-07-08T01:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/?p=1073"},"modified":"2011-07-07T21:54:33","modified_gmt":"2011-07-08T01:54:33","slug":"murder-she-wrote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/simplelife\/2011\/07\/murder-she-wrote.html","title":{"rendered":"Murder, She Wrote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, I listened as I drove from one appointment to another as the radio announcer read the verdict of Casey Anthony, the mother accused of killing her two-year-old daughter.\u00a0 Unless you are living under a refrigerator box, you know that the jury found her not guilty.<a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/jury-duty1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/jury-duty1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what her part in the murder of this child was.\u00a0\u00a0I do know that all the experts are saying that\u00a0the verdict of &#8220;Not Guilty&#8221; does not mean that this young woman is innocent.\u00a0 In reality, the defense lawyer did a masterful job by throwing out the possibility that Casey&#8217;s father, George, was the person who was responsible for all the problems.\u00a0 While the defense never presented any evidence that Mr. Anthony was involved in any way, their mere accusations caused the jury to questions him.\u00a0 The alternate jury member said, &#8220;There was simply something wrong with Mr.\u00a0 Anthony.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Often when accusations are leveled against a person, the fact that no evidence is lost and the accusation remains.\u00a0 This matter was never settled or even entered into evidence during the trial.\u00a0 Therefore, guilty or not, Mr.\u00a0 Anthony will live forever with\u00a0a stained character.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago,\u00a0 The Special Gathering, a ministry within the mentally challenged community, moved\u00a0one of our\u00a0programs\u00a0into a church.\u00a0While we had met in church buildings\u00a0before, we had not met at the same time that the congregation was present.\u00a0 \u00a0Things went better than we had ever imagined.\u00a0 Yet, there were one or two people who were leery of our members because &#8220;they <strong>ARE<\/strong> different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/olderwomanwithapurse1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/specialgathering.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/olderwomanwithapurse1.png?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>One elderly woman who was tittering on the verge of senility was convinced that our members were thieves.\u00a0 Several times she was certain that our members had stolen her purse.\u00a0 Actually, she had mislaid it; and\u00a0the missing purse\u00a0was quickly retrieved.<\/p>\n<p>About 30 years ago, from personal experience, I learned the devastating harm that loose and unfounded accusations can do to a person.\u00a0 The Lord graciously and quickly redeemed my reputation.\u00a0 However, I was taught how difficult it is to live under the veil of false perceptions.<\/p>\n<p>Each of us makes daily decisions regarding how we will approach others and their reputations.\u00a0 Have you been in a situation in which you have been falsely accused?\u00a0 How did you handle it?\u00a0 Have you ever found that you participated in hurting the reputation of someone else?\u00a0 Were you able to help erase the false perception you may have helped to establish?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, I listened as I drove from one appointment to another as the radio announcer read the verdict of Casey Anthony, the mother accused of killing her two-year-old daughter.\u00a0 Unless you are living under a refrigerator box, you know that the jury found her not guilty.
