You remember the incident that happened after Jesus&#8217; resurrection.\u00a0 First, the breakfast on the beach.\u00a0 I think Jesus \u00a0invented going out to breakfast that morning. \u00a0Hey, what&#8217;s a good breakfast? \u00a0One egg and a piece of toast. \u00a0That&#8217;s a satisfying, filling breakfast. \u00a0How much does it cost? \u00a0$.35? \u00a0And it takes five minutes to prepare for a family of five. \u00a0(Trust me! \u00a0I&#8217;ve timed it hundred&#8217;s of times.) \u00a0That breakfast would satisfy almost all women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Oh, no! Men want the Denny\u2019s Grand Slam! What does it contains? 17 pieces of bacon, two slices of ham, fourteen scrambled eggs, 25 pancakes, and two biscuits slathered with gravy. \u00a0Enough food to feed Napoleon&#8217;s army for a week.<\/p>\n<p>Women like to go out to lunch&#8211;not breakfast. \u00a0A salad, some iced peach tea and a four-inch piece of Kill-Me-with-Chocolate cake\u00a0that you share with three other people.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it. Everything about this passage in John 21:1-17 \u00a0must be a guy thing. \u00a0Guys, you\u2019ll love reviewing it.\u00a0 Women, listen and learn.<\/p>\n<p>Reviewing all of the things that had happened:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The final passover.<\/li>\n<li>Judas&#8217; betrayal.<\/li>\n<li>They slept while Jesus agonized in prayer.<\/li>\n<li>The soldiers appear to arrest Jesus and take him away.<\/li>\n<li>The disciples deserted him after his arrest.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 death.<\/li>\n<li>The resurrection.<\/li>\n<li>Now, he had appeared to them while they were in the upper room with the doors locked.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/06\/fisherman.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1044\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/06\/fisherman.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It was simply too much.\u00a0 Peter and the disciples were on overload. \u00a0Peter said, \u201cI\u2019m going fishing.\u201d\u00a0 Fishing? \u00a0Really, fishing?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s got to be a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>Women, we would go shopping or for a quiet walk in the park to clear our heads. \u00a0But Peter wanted to go fishing.<\/p>\n<p>And&#8211;uninvited&#8211;all the men wanted to go with Peter. \u00a0Uninvited, the men all piled into their own vehicles. \u00a0They simply invited themselves to go fishing. \u00a0Now, women love going places with other women. \u00a0In our favorite restaurant, we will even go to the public bathroom together. \u00a0But WE WAIT TO BE INVITED. \u00a0These men invited themselves.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>It was the next morning and they had fished all night and caught nothing.\u00a0 Fishing?\u00a0 All night?<\/p>\n<p>We won&#8217;t even go there because \u00a0it\u2019s a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>Then they saw a man on the shore that they didn&#8217;t recognize and the man asked them, \u201cHave you caught anything?\u00a0 Throw your nets on the other side of the boat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/simplelife\/files\/2011\/06\/fishing-boat9.jpg.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1045 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/234\/2011\/06\/fishing-boat9.jpg-300x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a>What? \u00a0&#8220;Throw your nets on the other side?&#8221; \u00a0No woman would have done that. \u00a0The stranger didn&#8217;t say, &#8220;Go across the lake to my favorite fishing spot.&#8221; \u00a0He directed them to the other side of the boat. \u00a0The boat was not more than 8 feet wide. \u00a0If there are no fish in the lake after fishing all night, why throw your net on the other side of the boat?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the men did it. Why? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know, except could it be because another man told them to do it?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>Women would be questioning, &#8220;The other side? \u00a0Has he lost his mind? \u00a0Who is this strange man? I don&#8217;t even have to walk to the other side of this boat. \u00a0I can toss the net on the other side standing in the middle. \u00a0Ladies, does this make sense?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the men did it and after filling the net with fish, only John realized that Jesus was the man on the shore.<\/p>\n<p>Again, it\u2019s a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>Sorry, Men, but you sometimes don&#8217;t recognize the most obvious things. \u00a0After observing men and their fish for decades, \u00a0I think these men were so concerned about getting the fish into the boat that their brains went into tilt mode. \u00a0If this had been a group of women, they would have immediately known that it was Jesus on the shore.<\/p>\n<p>Then Peter put on his clothes to jump into the water. \u00a0Two things. First, I&#8217;ve learned that men often take off their clothes to do work when they are alone with only other men. \u00a0Women never do that.<\/p>\n<p>Second, \u00a0Peter PUT his clothes back on to jump into the water.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s got to be a guy thing.<\/p>\n<p>We, women, would take off our clothes to jump into the water. \u00a0&#8220;Hey, I&#8217;m not getting these sandals wet. \u00a0And do you know how long I had to save to get this sarong? \u00a0Girls, meet me at the edge and BRING all my clothes!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But when they got to the shore, Jesus had breakfast ready for them.\u00a0 He had cooked it himself . \u00a0Jesus \u00a0invited the tired and hungry fishermen\/disciples for breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Then, after they had eaten, \u00a0Jesus gave Peter the opportunity to confess to Jesus that he loved Jesus three times.\u00a0 The exact number of times that Peter had denied Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A-h-h! That\u2019s a God thing!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>God is always gracious and loving to us. \u00a0No matter how bad our sins, he wants to forgive us and set us free. \u00a0Jesus came to the disciples where they were; and he showed them that he loved them.\u00a0 He was especially gracious to Peter. \u00a0He even gave Peter the opportunity to make his bad mistake right.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a God thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s a guy thing.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never quite understood most of this passage of scripture found in John 21.
