Progress?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was listening this morning to a segment on NPR&#8217;s Morning Edition in which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=126315106\">two music commentators discussed the music of a female rapper named Niki Minaj. <\/a> I found Minaj&#8217;s music to be ugly and unlistenable, but I think that about almost all rap music, so take that opinion for what&#8217;s it&#8217;s worth. What made me mad, though, was a remark the female commentator made about the vulgar sexuality in Minaj&#8217;s lyrics. She praised Minaj for &#8220;taking the power of leering out of the man&#8217;s hands and putting it into [her] own.&#8221;<br \/>\nOh, please. Anybody can achieve equality by giving up their personal dignity and sinking to the same level as lowlifes. Is it really a progressive achievement for women when they show they can be just as disgusting about sex and sexuality as men at their worst? No. Is there any gross or idiotic thing that one woman does that won&#8217;t be described at some point by another woman as &#8220;empowering&#8221;? No. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com\/articles\/women-now-empowered-by-everything-a-woman-does,1398\/\">As The Onion reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Whereas early feminists campaigned tirelessly for improved health care and safe, legal access to abortion, often against a backdrop of public indifference or hostility, today&#8217;s feminist asserts control over her biological destiny by wearing a baby-doll T-shirt with the word &#8220;Hoochie&#8221; spelled in glitter.<br \/>\n&#8220;Don&#8217;t tell this b***h what to do,&#8221; said Kari Eastley, 24, a participant in the Oberlin study and, according to one of her T-shirts, a &#8220;Sl*t Goddess.&#8221; &#8220;I wear what I want when I want, and no man is going to tell me otherwise&#8230; .&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Life so often imitates The Onion, I find.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was listening this morning to a segment on NPR&#8217;s Morning Edition in which two music commentators discussed the music of a female rapper named Niki Minaj.
