It&#8217;s a place where, according to Dr. Marcus Bachmann, Jesus Christ is the &#8220;Almighty Counselor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Comes now the Park51 Islamic cultural center <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/blogs-and-stories\/2010-11-22\/ground-zero-mosque-applied-for-federal-911-grant-reports-daily-beasts-john-avlon\/\">with an application<\/a> to the Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corporation for some $5 million in public funds <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.park51.org\/2010\/11\/22\/park51-lmdc-funding-request\/\">to provide<\/a> &#8220;all the residents of Lower Manhattan&#8221; with &#8220;domestic violence prevention, Arabic and other foreign language classes,<br \/>\nprograms and services for homeless veterans, two multi-cultural art<br \/>\nexhibits and immigration services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps not surprisingly, Bachmann is less than happy about that particular initiative. &#8220;<span class=\"status-body\"><span class=\"entry-content\">Outrageous to even consider federal funds go to building a mosque at Ground Zero,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/MicheleBachmann\/statuses\/6792774498127873\">tweets<\/a> she.<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michele Bachmann is such a fan of faith-based initiatives that Bachmann and Associates, the Christian counseling center she co-owns with her husband, has received $30,000 in Minnesota state funds over the past three years. After teaching at Harvard in the Department of History and Literature for three years, he became editor of the Boston Review. Professor Silk is the author of Spiritual Politics: Religion and America Since World War II and Unsecular Media: Making News of Religion in America. He is co-editor of Religion by Region, an eight-volume series on religion and public life in the United States, and co-author of The American Establishment, Making Capitalism Work, and One Nation Divisible: How Regional Religious Differences Shape American Politics.
