You know something, the feminists have always struck me as being hung up on the wrong issues. In the 70’s it was titles (Mrs. vs Ms.), in the 80’s men’s clubs and in the 90’s it was defending Bill Clinton and now we have the great Obama controversy. No, not his dithering over the war in Afghanistan that puts the safety of Afghan women at risk if the Taliban regain control of the nation. No, the feminists are concerned that Obama isn’t playing basketball or golf with women<\/a>:<\/p>\n

We asked Terry O’Neill, the new president of the National Organization for Women, what she thought of those Democratic women and others quietly complaining about a “boy’s club” atmosphere at the White House, as exemplified by the president playing basketball earlier this month with 11 members of Congress and four Cabinet Secretaries — all men.
\nAs the New York Times and cable news chatter looked at whether the Obama White House is too fratty yesterday, President Obama brought along a woman golf partner for the first time in his 24 golf outings as president, domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes.
\nIs this much ado about nothing?

Well, she’s wrong. It is much ado about nothing. Obama has every right to play golf or basketball without whomever he wants to hang with and why should he be forced to include women? And what does it have to do with the feminist movement to force him to do so (and I know all about the relationship building and the deal making, blah, blah, blah). Putting pressure on the president to include women in his leisure activities doesn’t mean he’ll actually forge a relationship with them. It just means that they’re useful for a photo op.
