Well, it looks like Michael Steele<\/a> isn’t the only one who thinks it’s weird that Obama would request that the first black governor of NY get out of the race<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“You never heard of that before,” Michelle Paterson, in her first comments on the situation, said following a luncheon in Midtown.
\n“David’s the first African-American governor in the state of New York and he’s being asked to get out of the race. It’s very unusual and it seems very unfair.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Obviously, Obama is more concerned with keeping the seat in Democratic hands (as the commenters on the Steele post noted). Obviously, this is out of character for a Democrat and has taken everyone by surprise. It’s certainly not in keeping with the Democrats’ position on affirmative action or the words of the diversity czar<\/a>.
