{"id":6616,"date":"2009-08-28T17:45:55","date_gmt":"2009-08-28T17:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2009\/08\/teachers-picketing-union-after.html"},"modified":"2009-08-28T17:45:55","modified_gmt":"2009-08-28T17:45:55","slug":"teachers-picketing-union-after","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2009\/08\/teachers-picketing-union-after.html","title":{"rendered":"Teachers picketing union after layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The union ignored their wishes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.katu.com\/news\/local\/55536367.html\">the teachers would rather have had the wage freeze than layoffs since the laid off teachers were given no notice of the layoffs:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The teachers, who gathered outside their union office, said they want a response from the union and put their demands in writing in the form of a petition.<br \/>\nThose speaking out said it shouldn&#8217;t have reached this point, and they would have accepted the district&#8217;s offer, favoring a wage freeze to save jobs.<br \/>\n&#8220;We took a poll in the spring and they got our opinion and the majority said wage freeze,&#8221; said Monica Whiteley, who was laid off. &#8220;So I would like them to look at the poll or honor it and have us look at the memo of understanding that is out there.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And the union is still not listening:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Negotiations started again Thursday at 11 a.m., but there was still no agreement.
