This is not the first time I&#8217;ve heard of a teacher getting sick because they were poisoned by food provided by their students:<\/p>\n<p>A side note: the name of the school is Global Studies. I thought that was rather odd so I checked it out and discovered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insideschools.org\/fs\/school_profile.php?id=452\">this review<\/a> of the school. For those of you who might be wondering, like me, what the heck is radical math, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radicalmath.org\/main.php?id=about\">here&#8217;s<\/a> the explanation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> integrate issues of economic and social justice into our math classes&#8230; math literacy is a civil right, and that our nation&#8217;s failure to provide students, especially low-income youth of color, with a high-quality math education, is a terrible injustice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the site they encourage the kids to think about how math can be used to solve problems in their community.<br \/>\nHmmm&#8230;interesting way to integrate math into everyday life but isn&#8217;t the lack of math skills the fault of the local teachers and the school board? Isn&#8217;t this a failure of the community, not the nation?<br \/>\nMaybe if educators really thought math literacy was a civil right, they might be more inclined to vote for legislators who support school choice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If I were a HS teacher, there is no way I would eat anything my students made.
