Reid and Democrats have pointed to the 72 cloture motions \u2014 which cut off debate and require 60 votes \u2014 as \u201cfilibusters.\u201d Republicans say these are not true filibusters, since many of the motions pass overwhelmingly.
\nNonetheless, Reid says Republican contentions that they\u2019ve only forced 65 or so cloture motions proves the point. Here\u2019s the stabbing quote:
\n\u201cIs it 72; is it 65? It\u2019s like you\u2019re charged with aggravated assault and the complaint says you stabbed somebody 72 times and you say no, it\u2019s 65 times,\u201d Reid said.
\nReid liked the analogy so much he used it again on a follow up question. \u201cThe picture is clear what the Republicans have done.
