US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, embroiled in the row over the sacking of US attorneys, has resigned, reports quoting senior officials say.
\nMr Gonzales, who has been in the job for two-and-a-half years, is expected to formally announce the decision in Washington later on Monday.
\nHe is said to have submitted his resignation to the president on Friday. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Solicitor General Paul Clement<\/a> will be acting attorney general<\/p>\n

The acting attorney general with be Solicitor General Paul Clement. He “can stay in that position for quite a while,” a senior administration official said.
\nThat would avoid a bruising confirmation fight. Some Democratic senators have vowed now to confirm a Gonzales successor. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
