{"id":2948,"date":"2007-07-20T00:52:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-20T00:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2007\/07\/political-its-all-political.html"},"modified":"2007-07-20T00:52:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-20T00:52:00","slug":"political-its-all-political","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2007\/07\/political-its-all-political.html","title":{"rendered":"Political, it&#8217;s all political"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reformedchicksblabbing.blogspot.com\/2007\/04\/reid-and-schumer-are-such.html\">Reid has already admitted<\/a> that they are using the war to gain seats in 2008, so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2007\/07\/19\/MNG8MR382A1.DTL\">this<\/a> is not surprising:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democratic Senate leaders knew going into Wednesday&#8217;s procedural roll call on their proposal to withdraw most U.S. forces from Iraq that they didn&#8217;t have the votes to win, but <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">victory wasn&#8217;t their goa<\/span>l.<br \/>\nInstead, the Democrats forced the Senate into a marathon 19-hour debate as a way of putting pressure on Republicans for their continued support of President Bush&#8217;s Iraq policy, which polls show is opposed by large majorities of the American public.<br \/>\nAnd the Democrats used the publicity they knew their talkathon would generate to spotlight a small group of Republican senators up for re-election in 2008 who haven&#8217;t yet split with Bush over the war and whose seats are prime Democratic targets.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opinionjournal.com\/best\/?id=110010354\">via<\/a>)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedonovan.com\/archives\/2007\/07\/hi_fires_july_1.html\">Here&#8217;s<\/a> something Reid might want to keep in mind the next time he calls for an all-nighter for political motives and sends out cares packages to make a political statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I read that<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/themiddleground.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/democrats-deliver-care-packages-to.html\">Harry Reid sent care packages to the Republican Senators<\/a><\/strong> including toiletries with a yellow ribbon and a note that said, &#8220;bring our troops home.&#8221; To say that irritated me is an understatement. Sen. Reid was making a mockery of our real support for our troops. I have 1200 marines that could have used those care packages.<br \/>\nHey, Harry! Why don&#8217;t you support our troops and send some of that our way?
