Reid had to face some pretty hard questions<\/a> concerning his statement that he would cut funding to the troops:<\/p>\n

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spoke to a tough crowd of veterans Thursday in Reno, with one assailing the Nevada Democrat for “irresponsible statements” he has made about the war in Iraq.

\nSome veterans implored Reid and federal lawmakers to stop using the troops in Iraq as a “political football.”
\nJohn Edwards of Reno was blunt in his question of Reid: “Why would you make such an irresponsible statement that you are going to withhold funding for our troops?” Edwards asked. “You are using them as a political football.”
\nReid said Congress has added $4.3 billion for military medical supplies and veterans funding. “We have made sure that the military will have anything they need.”
\nEdwards was not pleased with Reid’s answer.
\n“He never answered my question,” Edwards said. “He never came close. I’m very disappointed.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t know why Edwards expected any kind of meaningful response, Reid’s a politician after all. And if the Democrats think that they can shift the blame to Bush, then why not use the troops as a political football? (But they’ll find it hard to shift the blame as this question demonstrates.)<\/p>\n
