The delegates were given a choice of a dozen or so candidates.  None of the Presidential campaigns were represented at the convention.<br \/>\nThe national frontrunner, Rudy Giuliani, placed third, right behind <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Georgia&#8217;s own Newt Gingrich, who finished second<\/span>.  But the winner was former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">who received more votes than all the other candidates combined.<\/span><br \/>\nFourth, fifth, sixth and seventh place went to Romney, McCain, Huckabee and Brownback, in that order.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/metro\/content\/shared-blogs\/ajc\/politicalinsider\/entries\/2007\/03\/24\/in_gwinnett_fred_thompson_gets.html\">via<\/a>)<br \/>\nI think we are seeing the erosion of support for the leading candidates and the beginning of a ground swell for the closest we are going to get to an electable,  <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">conservative<\/span> candidate.
