Due to health concerns, Max Lucado told his elder board that he’s stepping down as senior pastor,<\/a> he will continue to teach and write books.<\/p>\n

In the past two years, Max Lucado, senior minister at San Antonio’s Oak Hills Church and a best-selling Christian author, has completed three half-Ironman Triathlons.
\nGiven that, it was unusual for the man called “America’s Best Preacher” in 2005 by Reader’s Digest to suddenly feel exhausted.
\nIn August, he learned he has atrial fibrillation, a disorder the American Heart Association says affects more than 2 million Americans. If left untreated, heart arrhythmia can lead to a stroke.
\n“I told our elders, ‘Your quarterback’s tired,'” said Lucado, who advised them two weeks ago of his decision to step down after nearly 20 years.
