{"id":2057,"date":"2007-02-13T18:58:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-13T18:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2007\/02\/college-rejects-wikipedia-as-a.html"},"modified":"2007-02-13T18:58:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-13T18:58:00","slug":"college-rejects-wikipedia-as-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2007\/02\/college-rejects-wikipedia-as-a.html","title":{"rendered":"College rejects Wikipedia as a source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/na\/cp_K021308AU.xml.html\">this same problem<\/a> with my professor:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Middlebury College history students are no longer allowed to use Wikipedia in preparing class papers.<br \/>\nThe school&#8217;s history department recently adopted a policy that says it&#8217;s OK to consult the popular online encyclopedia, but that it can&#8217;t be cited as an authoritative source by students.<br \/>\nThe policy says, in part, &#8220;Wikipedia is not an acceptable citation, even though it may lead one to a citable source.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I did a research paper on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emerging_Church\">Emerging\/Emergent church movement<\/a> and used Wikipedia as a source but the professor said that it wasn&#8217;t reliable.
