{"id":1754,"date":"2006-12-24T06:40:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-24T06:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2006\/12\/man-sets-himself-on-fire-to-pr.html"},"modified":"2006-12-24T06:40:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-24T06:40:00","slug":"man-sets-himself-on-fire-to-pr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/reformedchicksblabbing\/2006\/12\/man-sets-himself-on-fire-to-pr.html","title":{"rendered":"Man Sets Himself on Fire to Protest School Board Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kern High School Board of Trustees voted to change the name of the winter and spring break back to Christmas and Easter break and a man set himself on fire in protest:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The immolation attempt came one day after the Kern High School Board of Trustees voted to return to the use of Christmas and Easter break, instead of winter and spring break, for the holiday vacations.<br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;re just trying to uphold American cultural and religious history,&#8221; Chad Vegas, a minister and member of the board of trustees who proposed the name changes Dec. 6., told Associated Press earlier this week.<br \/>\n&#8220;It&#8217;s not even the biggest item on the agenda, but the liberals are obsessing about it,&#8221; he said before the 5-1 vote to revert the names to their pre-1980s titles.<br \/>\n[&#8230;]<br \/>\nThe injured man suffered first-degree burns to his shoulders and arms, said Bakersfield fire Capt. Garth Milam. He also had third degree burns to his face.<br \/>\n[&#8230;]<br \/>\nAccording to Bakersfield&#8217;s KGET-TV news, the man carried a sign that read, &#8220;(Expletive) religious freedom and the silent KHSD.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe also made a statement while in the ambulance about the destructive effects of religion, said Milam.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldnetdaily.com\/news\/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53493\">Click here <\/a>to see a picture and read the rest of the story.
