South Sudan votes to pave the way for a new nation<\/a>. Nearly 99% of the southern Sudanese vote was in favor of secession. After years of persecution and war, those in southern Sudan will have the chance and rebuilding and creating a new life for themselves and future generations. <\/p>\n

Southern Sudan votes to secede<\/a>. <\/span>“Today we received these results and we accept and welcome these results because they represent the will of the southern people,” al-Bashir said on state television.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>“But we are committed to the links between the north and the south, and we are committed to good relations based on co-operation.”<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>His comments reflect the economic dependence between the two: southern Sudan, which is rich in oil, cannot export its oil resources without using a pipeline that runs through the north.<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span>The January 9-15 vote came six years after north and south Sudan ended a civil war spanning more than two decades, which left at least two million people dead. In the wake of the devastation are countless numbers of orphans and widows who need our help and prayers to move forward. Please pray for southern Sudan.<\/span><\/div>\n
