{"id":414,"date":"2009-02-06T07:58:51","date_gmt":"2009-02-06T07:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/progressiverevival\/2009\/02\/support-president-obama-and-su.html"},"modified":"2009-02-06T07:58:51","modified_gmt":"2009-02-06T07:58:51","slug":"support-president-obama-and-su","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/progressiverevival\/2009\/02\/support-president-obama-and-su.html","title":{"rendered":"Support President Obama (and support the Stimulus Plan)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Just over three months ago\u00a0the American people\u00a0elected Barack Obama as our president because we believed he was uniquely equipped with the vision to lead in this time of economic and global crisis.\u00a0 America &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0let Obama lead.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Our government can and will do good things for the American people if we support the stimulus package presented by the president. \u00a0 As President Obama said in his inauguration address &#8211; we don&#8217;t want big government or small government, we want smart government.\u00a0 Americans have moved beyond the old liberal (big) vs. conservative (no)\u00a0argument on government and so should Congress.\u00a0 We will be getting smart government with the power to rebuild\u00a0America if we support\u00a0the President&#8217;s\u00a0stimulus package.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In addition to broader economic goals, the spending is\u00a0necessary in order\u00a0to stem the suffering that is happening right now in our country.\u00a0\u00a0 Home loss, job loss, poverty, hunger, lack of health care, and all of this is getting worse.\u00a0 We need to act fast and we need to act boldly to help our fellow citizens in need. \u00a0Just as religious people supported FDR&#8217;s new deal, religious people especially should be pushing for the stimulus package as part of our understanding of our responsibility to our neighbor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The country\u00a0gave the Republicans the opportunity\u00a0to lead for eight years and the result was a stunning repudiation of the GOP.\u00a0 If Barack Obama and the Democrats fail, then vote them out.\u00a0 But in the meantime, contact your congressional leader and tell them that you support the President, and his economic stimulus package.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just over three months ago\u00a0the American people\u00a0elected Barack Obama as our president because we believed he was uniquely equipped with the vision to lead in this time of economic and global crisis.\u00a0 America &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0let Obama lead.\u00a0 Our government can and will do good things for the American people if we support the stimulus package presented&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":51,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[10,1,19],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-414","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-economy","category-election-08","category-poverty"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
