\nbombed.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Hospitals
\nbombed<\/a>, including a Children’s hospital.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Homes bombed.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>United Nations relief
\nagencies bombed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Refugee centers bombed. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Universities
\nbombed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>United
\nNations schools bombed. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>If the Israeli officials responded to appeals to conscience,
\none would cry out:\u00a0 <\/span>“At long last,
\nhave you left no sense of decency?”\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span>These bombs are paid for through American taxpayer dollars, which makes
\nthis violence that we are supporting.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>What has been the response of our political
\nleadership?\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>A mixture of
\nsilence, racist double-standard for the dignity of human life, and
\ninaction.\u00a0 <\/span>The time to act is now.<\/p>\n
\nJanuary 2nd<\/sup> weekly address, and made two points:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>“This
\nrecent outburst of violence was instigated by Hamas — a Palestinian terrorist
\ngroup.”\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>In other words,
\nno accountability for Israel for its actions.\u00a0 <\/span>And the only acknowledgement of the Israeli’s murder of 700
\npeople and the injuring of thousands more?\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>“Regrettably,
\nPalestinian civilians have been killed in recent days.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Passive verbs, Mr. President?\u00a0 <\/span>Can’t you bring yourself to use the active verbs and say who
\nis doing the killing?\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Would
\nit hurt your gentle soul to state that it is the Israeli state, using bombs and
\nplanes and rockets paid for by our taxpayers, who is systematically killing and
\nmurdering Palestinians?\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/span>If we were talking about Hamas, or any Palestinian faction, killing 700
\nIsraeli civilians, would Bush or any American spokespersons say: “Regrettably,
\nIsraeli civilians have been killed in recent days?”\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Of course not.\u00a0
\n<\/span>We would dismiss that as a blatant terrorist act, an abomination, one which
\ncalls for immediate cessation. \u00a0<\/span>The
\ngroups responsible would be labeled as supporting terrorism, be prosecuted and
\nbrought to justice.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>But that
\nkind of concern and urgent action apparently only applies in case of Israeli
\nlives, not Palestinians.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Why is that Mr. President?\u00a0 <\/span>Do Palestinians not bleed?\u00a0 <\/span>Do they not suffer?\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Are they the children of a lesser
\nGod?\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
\nsecurity and peace for our allies, the free people of Israel. For the
\nPalestinian people, we seek a peaceful and democratic Palestinian state that
\nserves its citizens and respects its neighbors.”<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>What is missing from the above
\nequation?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Israelis
\ndeserve “security and peace”, while the Palestinians deserver a “peaceful and
\ndemocratic state.”\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Mr.
\nPresident, do the citizens of Palestine not deserve the same peace and security
\nthat you promise the citizens of Israel?\u00a0
\n<\/span>Do they not deserve to live without the constant fear of having Israel
\ndrop American-made bombs drop from American-made planes on their head?\u00a0 <\/span>What good is a “peaceful state” if you
\nconstantly live in fear of the 4th<\/sup> largest military force in the
\nworld–that of the Israeli regime–propped up through five billions dollars of
\nannual military and financial aid from the United States?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
\natrocities being waged on Palestinians by stating:\u00a0 <\/span>“The
\nloss of civilian life in Gaza and Israel is a source of deep concern for
\nme.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>I would say it is about time, but
\nthe truth of the matter is that it is two weeks past the time.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>It is time and past time to move
\nrapidly from “deep concern” to direct action to alleviate the suffering of some
\nof the poorest people on Earth.\u00a0 <\/span>If
\nthe “fierce urgency of the now” that Obama promised us is to have any real
\nmeaning, now is the time.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span>Right after the above sentence about the “deep concern for me”, Obama
\nadded “and
\nafter January 20th I’m going to have plenty to say about the issue.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Why after January 20th<\/sup>, President-elect
\nObama?\u00a0 <\/span>How many more Palestinians
\nhave to die while we wait for you to act courageously and compassionately when
\nBush has failed us so disastrously?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
