(12.9%) The right may have an edge in organization and funding but we have numbers on our side.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">As this investigation shows &#8211; religious does not equal conservative. \u00a0Earlier this summer there was a report by Pew that reminded us that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/articles\/news\/campaign-2008\/2008\/08\/13\/many-religious-voters-favor-obama-poll-finds.html\"> Obama leads McCain in 18 out of 19 religious groups<\/a>. I wonder if those of you who are looking at the grid of religion and politics below also see the potential for organizing and solidarity. \u00a0Given the difficult times that are upon us, especially in the economy, we will need the hope and\u00a0perseverance\u00a0that our communities of faith can sustain.\u00a0There is a lot in this report to cause hope for those of us who see religion as a major inspiration for progressive politics. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold\">The 12 Tribes<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#religiousright\">THE &#8220;RELIGIOUS RIGHT&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#heartland\">HEARTLAND CULTURE WARRIORS<\/a><br \/><a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#moderateevang\">MODERATE EVANGELICALS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#whitebread\">WHITE BREAD PROTESTANTS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_2.html#convertible\">CONVERTIBLE CATHOLICS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_2.html#left\">THE &#8220;RELIGIOUS LEFT&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/153\/story_15355_2.html#spiritual\">SPIRITUAL BUT NOT RELIGIOUS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/153\/story_15355_2.html#spiritual%23seculars\">SECULARS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_3.html#latinos\">LATINOS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_3.html#jews\">JEWS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_3.html#muslims\">MUSLIMS &amp; OTHER FAITHS<\/a>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<a class=\"nav\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_3.html#blackprots\">BLACK PROTESTANTS<\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 13px\">Moral issues are dramatically less important this year than in previous years &#8211; even among the most religiously observant voters, according to the 2008 edition of the Twelve Tribes of American\u00a0<a class=\"iAs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#\" target=\"_blank\">Politics<\/a>.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 12px\">Just 13% listed social issues first, half the number who did in the summer of 2004. 61% listed the economy first compared to 32% in 2004.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span class=\"text\"><br \/>The 2008 Twelve Tribes survey, conducted from June-August, also found:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0px;margin-right: 0px;margin-bottom: 0px;margin-left: 0px;padding-top: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-bottom: 0px;padding-left: 0px\">\n<li><span class=\"text\">A massive shift among Latino Protestants is what has fueled the hugely important move of Hispanics to the\u00a0<a class=\"iAs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/236\/story_23639_1.html#\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/stevenwaldman\/2008\/09\/the-major-shift-of-latino-prot.html\">more<\/a>).<\/span>\u00a0\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"text\">The centrist Tribes &#8211; Convertible Catholics, Whitebread Protestants and Moderate Evangelicals &#8211; have moved to the left on some social issues but have become more suspicious of government spending programs.
