The Devotion School, a “public elementary educational institution” in Brookline, Mass., is asking parents to fill out permission slips before their children can participate in a weekly recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance beginning in January. <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Gerardo Martinez, the principal sent a letter home to parents saying, “I urge you to have a conversation as a family to help your children understand why I will be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and to support them in feeling comfortable and confident in the decision on whether or not to participate.” <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Martinez attached a form to be returned to the school asking parents to check either: “Yes, my child will participate in the weekly Pledge of Allegiance” or “No, my child will not participate in the weekly Pledge of Allegiance.”<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The letter packet also included a copy of the Pledge of Allegiance with a annotation defining the words “under God” as meaning “there is one Supreme entity for every citizen.”<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

What’s next, permission slips to say “Merry Christmas” in school… Oh, wait, we’ve already banished Christmas to from the halls of public school… <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n
