Yesterday, our daughter Elisabeth announced that she is engaged to be married to Andy. Ellie and Andy spent yesterday making the rounds to their family and significant friends to share their news.  <\/span>I’ve never seen her more radiant, and I couldn’t be happier for them both. Since Ellie was born, my wife Jill and I have prayed since for this moment, that God would bring a godly, stalwart, gracious and faithful young man into her life. That prayer is answered. Now, other prayers begin… <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

“God, we pray today for those engaged to be married. This is a time of hope and anticipation. May they now begin to discover the principles and power of covenant love and faithfulness. This couple has made a promise to make a promise; they have chosen to make a choice. This day, though not their marriage, is a beginning and they can only imagine now what their union will entail. Today, give them wisdom and guidance and wise counsel to learn truths that will equip them for life together. Give them strength and efficiency as they plan the logistics of their wedding, and their family life beyond. Show them how to leverage the stresses of this season to cultivate maturity in their love. Amidst the joy of engagement, help them embrace the crucible that tests and purifies them. Engagement is a “time trial” where they will watch and learn about themselves, each other, and the uniqueness of their relationship. Walk with them closely through this process. Remind them at times of doubt that you are there. For you yourself understand engagement, for you are “engaged” to your Bride.  <\/span>As this couple anticipates their wedding, in the same way we all anticipate the consummation of history – the wedding of Jesus with his People.
