Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, &#8216;They have no wine.&#8217; And Jesus said to her, &#8216;Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.&#8217; His mother said to the servants, &#8216;Do whatever he tells you.&#8217; John 2:1-5, NRSV<\/div>\n<p>My friend Lisa and I talked about this story the other day, and she mentioned something I&#8217;d overlooked. &#8220;All his mother said was, &#8216;they have no wine.&#8217; She could have just wanted him to go to the market and pick up a few bottles.&#8221; What was it about that statement that made it the prelude to a miracle? It&#8217;s a good question to ponder.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">Compassionate Jesus,<br \/>\nThere are so many needs I can lay at your feet: she has no home; he is very sick; the children don&#8217;t have enough food. Help me to be like your mother, so concerned when the people around me don&#8217;t have enough that I take their needs directly to you. Give me the sensitivity to know when you are about to do something spectacular, and the wisdom to gather your servants and urge them to do whatever you say. In this season of giving, so many are desperate for what only you can provide, Lord.
