“Joash decided to repair the Lord\u2019s house.” 2 Chronicles 24:4<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

King Joash of Judah didn’t make the mess he found himself in; his ancestors\u00a0had neglected the temple and abandoned God, but he took it upon himself to do something about that. In our marriages, we often have to clean up other people’s messes. As Joash repented of the sins of his fathers, we can\u00a0to do the same. Let’s go into our prayer closets today and do some repair work.<\/p>\n

These were his instructions to them: \u201cYou must always act in the fear of the Lord, with faithfulness and an undivided heart. 2 Chron. 19:9<\/em><\/p>\n

Father,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

My parents and their parents did their best, but they often fell short of full-on obedience to your principles. They didn’t always walk in love and they didn’t always experience the grace you were ready to give them. Please forgive us for neglecting You, Your Word, and Your grace. Forgive us for following after other “gods”. I repent on their behalf of familial sins. I repent of the iniquity that has plagued my family for generations. Father, make me born anew into your family, the family that derives its name\u00a0from You. I receive your forgiveness, and I ask you to rebuild my house with your word. I commit myself and my family to follow\u00a0after you with an undivided heart.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
