And more specifically one who chose abortion.

I remember a Mother’s Day when I watched one of our daughters perform in the musical Annie. I observed a little girl in the audience crying in one of the final scenes; she couldn’t wipe her tears away fast enough, they were in free-fall. She sat next to her mommy, a beautiful young, intelligent woman that I have met before. I know a little of the back-story of their lives. This beautiful woman was raped in college. Her assailant impregnated her. She had a choice. She carried the child to term and accepted the role and responsibility of motherhood.

Today I’m thinking of mommies that made a different choice. And I wonder how some of them might be feeling today, perhaps burdened with regret and loneliness. I’ve met a few and loved a few. If you, Gentle Blog-reader, are one of those souls, Jesus wants to take the burden of regret and sorrow off of your shoulders. He can redeem anything we give Him, no matter how painful.

Sometimes when I repent of my sins I can go and un-do some of my blunders. I can hit “Control/Command Z”. Make them right, apologize, heal, change the trajectory. But sometimes I can’t. Sometimes my actions have had irrevocable ramifications. But Jesus has a solution: “No condemnation.” It’s left in His hands to deal with. And in the case of abortion, the child is left in His hands. In Good Hands.

I met that little girl for the first time after the show. I’ve never in my life seen such lovely eyes in any other person. Meeting her was a gift to me on Mother’s Day, reminding me of the gift and miracle of life and that beauty can truly come from tragedy.

Let’s pray for those who suffer under the weight of guilt and regret from abortion.

Father,
You are good and You are forgiving. Pour out your healing to women who have aborted their children. You invite the little children to come to You. Thank you for holding these precious lives in your hand, loving them while they wait to meet their loved ones in Heaven. Restore to these repentant hearts the joy of their salvation. Uphold them, Savior. Forgive and redeem all that has been lost.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.
