During the tribute to moving pictures, he was joined on stage by Anna Kendrick (in full Cinderella gown from Into the Woods) and “interrupted” by Jack Black. The best part was a montage of movie clips where Harris was inserted observing what was going on in the scene. While not as good or as enjoyable as previous productions by Billy Crystal in years past, it was still pretty clever. Harris is a good host, but his jokes were groaners and actually wore out his welcome by the end. The ongoing schtick about his own Oscar predictions grew tiresome as night went on and there no real payoff in the end.

Birdman was the big winner of the night winning four awards including Best Picture, Directing, Original Screenplay and Cinematography. Next in line was The Grand Budapest Hotel winning awards for costume design, makeup and hairstyling, production design and original score. Eddie Redmayne won for Best Actor (The Theory of Everything) and Julianne Moore for best actress (Still Alice). Disney also won it big too winning both Animation Picture (Big Hero 6) and Animation Short (Feast).

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-872" src="https://wp-media.beliefnet.com/sites/359/2015/02/Oscarfilm-225x300.jpg" alt="Neil Patrick Harris hosts the 87th Oscars on Sunday, February 22nd on ABC.
